Kuppali Venkatappa Puttappa(29 December 1904 – 11 November 1994) famously known as Kuvempu was a Kannada Critic, Poet, Playwright, Thinker, and great Novelist. He is generally viewed as the best Kannada Poet of the twentieth century. He is the first among Kannada essayists to be enriched with the lofty Jnanpith Award.
Kuppali Venkatappa Puttappa is one of the most respected poets in Karnataka.
Kuvempu began his abstract work in English, with a gathering of verse called Beginner’s
Muse yet later changed to his local Kannada. He initiated the development to make Kannada the medium for instruction, underscoring the topic “Training in the Mother’s tongue”. To oblige the requirements of Kannada to inquire about, he established the Kannada Adhyayana Samsthe (“Institute of Kannada Studies”) in the Mysore University, which has since been renamed after him as “Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies”. As Vice-Chancellor of Mysore University, he spearheaded the investigation of sciences and dialects. He championed the distributing of Knowledge for the laymen with by G. Hanumanta Rao.
